Long one of rock’s most unique and iconoclastic frontmen, Mark E. Smith — the only constant member of The Fall — turns 54 today, and to celebrate, we offer up this hour-long documentary called “The Fall: The Wonderful and Frightening World of Mark E. Smith” that aired on the BBC back in 2005. It’s a great overview of Smith and his remarkable career; as John Peel says early on, “With the Fall, you can never be absolutely certain what you’re going to get. Sometimes it may not be what you want, but it’s still… they’re the Fall. It’s all you need.”
